Our Services

A comprehensive approach to mental health

Wherever you are along the mental health continuum, we can help. Our clients range from those struggling with the pain of treatment resistant depression or anxiety to those seeking a deeper sense of meaning and connection in their daily lives.

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS

  • The Caire Core Program is built around five ketamine treatment sessions. These treatments are accompanied by integration sessions with a psychotherapist for maximum effectiveness.

  • As patients go through their sessions, they find each one building on the last, accelerating their improvement over time.

  • Our experience, and research from institutions like the NIH have shown that a shorter, more condensed cluster of sessions leads to the quickest and best outcomes.

  • Further, we know that the body also affects the mind, so we assess our clients for other conditions that could be contributing to their mental health struggles and offer evidence-based modalities to address them.

  • Our philosophy revolves around being patient, supportive and kind as we help you along your journey, knowing that you are unique and there is no one size fits all program.

THE PHASES OF TREATMENT

1. PREPARATION

  • The Consult

The first thing our new clients do is have a free fifteen minute call with one of our doctors to answer your questions and see if Caire is a good match for your needs. If so, we will schedule you for a full intake and evaluation.

  • The Intake and Scheduling

You will meet with one of our doctors, either in person or online, to review your health history questionnaire. We will find out more about what we can offer you from our integrated services and further prepare you for ketamine therapy.

We will also work with you to set up a therapy schedule that makes it easy to get treatment. Our clinic is open on weekends for clients that are too busy during the week.

For the clients that do not have a therapist that will be working with them for the integration portion of their treatment, we will introduce you to one of our team that will help you along your journey.

2. YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE

  • Getting Ready

Before your first treatment you will already be prepared for what to expect so you will feel comfortable and secure. We will work with you to pick out music that will help guide you along. We will also develop your intentions for your session. Intentions are important guideposts that will help you get the most out of your experience by focusing on what is most important to learn and overcome.

  • The Treatment

Ketamine therapy usually lasts an hour and half depending on the needs of each patient. A therapist is with you the whole time, quietly supporting you and taking notes, or actively interacting with you and providing therapy or guided meditation based on how you’re feeling at the time.

Some clients have described their sessions as “the ultimate vacation” where they can finally detach from their worries, stress and struggle that constantly surrounds them. Patients have a comfortable and pleasant experience that can range from deeply calm and relaxing, to more psychedelic and exploratory in nature. After detaching from the obstacles they face, clients often talk about attaching to something deeper, meaningful and transcendent that felt hidden in their daily lives, but they suspected was there all along.

We will work with you in advance to set expectations, and can adjust during a session if you want to alter the experience. The goal is to explore your mind from a perspective that is new and safe, in a way otherwise impossible. Struggles and obstacles are overcome with a fresh sense of calm, clarity and capability.

3. INTEGRATION

As your psychedelic session winds down, your brain will be in its most receptive state to making meaningful changes. This is the critical integration portion of the treatment.

Your therapist has been along with you the whole journey, and will now talk with you to unpack your experience and solidify the insights you have gained.

This is an important step in locking in your progress and preventing a relapse of your symptoms.

Integration sessions can be more brief, around twenty minutes, but often can unfold into whole therapy sessions of an hour or more. This is precious time, and we allow you the space to unfold on your own timeline.

4. COMPLETING THE PROGRAM

  • Therapy

If you have come to Caire with a psychotherapist you already work with, we are happy to consult with them as par. If you are wanting to work with a therapist that has specific training in psychedelic medicine and a background in ketamine therapy, then we encourage you to work with our therapists in between ketamine sessions.

  • Acupuncture

One of the unique features of the Caire Program is the work we have done to integrate acupuncture as a treatment to improve outcomes. We have developed specific techniques that accelerate the course of ketamine therapy and can address other coexisting health concerns.

  • Functional Medicine

After your initial consultation, we will assess if there are other avenues apart from the ketamine therapy that will help your body and mind heal. In the same way that ketamine therapy prepares the mind for absorbing change, likewise it is a perfect time to make health changes across the board. We can put together a plan to help implement those changes.

5. GOING FURTHER AND DEEPER

When we think of exercise, we all know that it isn’t a one time thing. Likewise, mental health is about steady improvement and maintenance. Once we do the work to create new neural pathways, we have to hold on to our new found transformations.

  • Refreshing

After completing the Caire Core Program some patients find it helpful to continue with more ketamine sessions. This schedule is highly individual ranging from weekly to monthly to annually.  Our experience aligns with the latest research that shows ongoing care is very useful for patients who have struggled for multiple years.

  • Ongoing Therapy

Whether patients choose to work with our psychologists, or their own. We generally find it important to continue a dialogue and maintain a therapeutic relationship over an extended period beyond our Core Program timeframe.

  • Treatment at Home

Ongoing treatment can be delivered to your home. Our therapists and guides can work with you remotely online. This can be in the form of more psychotherapy or with further ketamine exploration. We use ketamine lozenges, delivered to you, that can be a safe and effective alternative to coming to our clinic when taken with a therapist remotely present.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pricing and Insurance?

  • Each patient has different needs. This means all of our clients have individual plans put together for them ranging in length and types of treatments.

  • Certain parts of Caire’s comprehensive program may be covered by your insurance such as psychotherapy, consultations, acupuncture and physical therapy. We can provide you with a “superbill” —an itemized invoice— that you can submit to your insurance carrier, and in many cases we can directly bill for you as a courtesy.

If you would like to check with your insurance provider about possible out-of-network reimbursements, below are some of the billing codes that we use in providing care. We have seen most of our patients receive some amount of reimbursement from their insurance.

    99204 - 45 min initial consult ($400)

    90834 – Psychotherapy 45 minutes ($125)

    97813 - Acupuncture  ($130)

  • Many Caire treatment services could be considered qualified expenses, it may be possible to utilize HSAs or FSAs to pay for treatment.

  • We know that finances can be a major stressor, so we developed the Caire Help program that lets us work on a sliding fee scale for patients that might need a little help. If the Caire approach sounds like it might be a good fit, the best thing to do is call us and we can take it from there. Don’t worry, we have never let a patient’s financial situation get in the way of providing quality care since 1997.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Program?

  • Therapy is an important element in mental health treatment, but it is only one of the three branches of Caire’s approach to your health. The psychedelic experience of ketamine actually transforms your brain to make it work “happier” at the same time making it more pliable to the positive effects of therapy. Our holistic model goes even further by treating some of the root contributing factors to conditions like depression and anxiety. This three prong strategy makes for the more profound, rapid and sustained changes we see in our clients.

  • There is a big difference between psychedelics in a casual setting, and in a therapeutic one. Undoubtedly people have reported having meaningful experiences experimenting on their own with psychedelics, but our clients work with us to achieve specific serious mental health goals that have eluded them, often for decades.

The analogy would be comparing a self-help book with working with an experienced mental health doctor. Both are helpful, but they are far from equal. On a more specific note, clinical administration of ketamine is different in dosing and route of administration, both of which affect outcomes.

Most importantly, the research shows that pairing psychedelic therapy with an expert therapist provides better results than the medicine on its own. This is the difference between a cool trip and a transformative healing treatment.

  • The common phrase invoked to keep a psychedelic experience pleasant and constructive is “set and setting”. This refers to the environment and the mindset of the client entering therapy.

At Caire we understand the daily struggle that a client goes through, and we work hard to create an environment that, from the moment you arrive, feels warm, safe and inviting.

We work with you in advance and during treatment to put you in a mindset that is both calm and open to experiencing meaningful transformation. Clients are helped by the medicine to open up, and by the therapist on hand to calmly engage with thoughts, feelings, and memories that could otherwise be hard to work with in a typical therapy setting.

Unpleasant experiences and “bad trips” don’t come from facing challenging emotions, but from not having professional level support to bolster you while you do some of the most meaningful work of your life.

  • Caire treatment is personalized to your needs and medications and substance use will be reviewed during your intake. One of the advantages of ketamine therapy is not having to discontinue most antidepressants and other medications.

Although not an absolute, some medications like benzodiazepines and other hypnotics are recommended to avoid prior to treatment. The specifics of each client will determine exactly what the preparation for treatment will look like.

  • The following conditions may temporarily or permanently exclude you from treatment:

    Allergy to ketamine

    Pregnancy/Breast Feeding

Personal history of schizophrenia or psychosis

    Uncontrolled hypertension (blood pressure)

    Severe recent head injury/trauma

  • After completing treatment with Caire we have seen patients come off of their medications, some decrease their dosage, while others do not but feel an improvement in the effectiveness of their medications. Each patient is different and we are happy to coordinate with your other healthcare providers.

Likewise, some patients find their existing therapy relationships much more productive, while others feel ready to decrease their need for ongoing therapy. Overall the increase in compassion, self-love, coping skills and overall wellbeing are the typical goals of treatment with Caire and can have many positive effects on how a client utilizes health resources in general.

  • A doctor’s referral is not required.
